Avery, the feminine form is used when the subject or subjects are feminine. If they are mixed, then the masculine form is used. So Noi siamo andati al negozio would indicate that all male or mixed group went to the store. Where Noi siamo andate would indicate that only females went to the store. You wouldn't use Noi siamo andata because andata implies singular. So it should be pretty easy to determine when to use feminine forms.

Just to add at what Dennis said, "Noi siamo andata" should be "Io sono andata" because it is, as he said, singular. Keep up the good work at learning Italian!
