There is no easy way to prevent this at the moment, but you're the third or fourth person to raise this recently so we're going to get rid of the escape key functionality once and for all. I have already emailed a couple of our developers about it.
And in case you're interested in a little historical context for the Escape key, the original version of Fluenz didn't have the "X" button in the upper right to close the program. At that time, the Escape key was the ONLY way to close Fluenz (a slight oversight!). We'd get calls from users who were totally mystified as to how to close the program :)
