Hi James! The reason why "Gusta" is in singular construction because the direct object of the verb is "su país", which is singular. When it says "The people and the culture" it's using a different grammatical construction, because if it followed the previous construction, it should say "your people and your culture". But often times in spoken language you'll hear this change (that is, from "Su" to "El", "La", "Los", etc.), just like in English (from "your" to "the") when listing things you like.
So if it was "Su país, sus personas y su cultura", then you should write -- Me gustan su país, sus personas y su cultura. Otherwise, the verb will just follow the closest direct object. For instance, if it said: "sus personas" it would be: Me gustan sus personas, el país y la cultura. Hope this helps!

OK, I get it. "las personas y la cultura" is more like something parenthetical to "su pais".
