If that works for you. My comment had more to do with how I can remember when to use the article with "de" and when not to, rather than the logic behind it. After all, there are lots of French constructions that do not directly translate into English. For example, isn't "ne..pas" or "ne..jamais" a double negative? But that's just he way it is. Anyway, I find that after getting through French 5, eventually you reach the point when only "Je veux de l'eau" and "Je veux une verre d'eau" sound right to your ear. That is the ultimate goal, much like English where we just know how it is said without thinking about why.
