Hi Tony, This is the way that I understand the difference between the two: "Can you hand me my purse? It's over there." would be da drüben. I can point to it or it's close by. But if I were to say, "I'm going into the city tomorrow. I want to try a new restaurant over there", I would use dort drüben. It's far away - over there.
