Audio component/companion, CD and podcasts
I read a post on here yesterday that got me thinking and today I can't find it. Basically what the gentleman was saying was the the audio companion/component, (what you listen to in your car), is not up to the standards of the computer lessons. In fairness, we do tend to listen to the CD over and over as we are in our car in that level, but I agree with the writer that the audio companion should more reflect the lessons, and should definitely be more challenging. Today I opened the podcasts for level 4, which I just started and it is going over material that was covered in level 2, even conjugating the same verbs. Since we are adults, we should know what we haven't mastered and be able to go back and re-study, which is the beauty of having CDs that we can refer to whenever we need them. What I would really like to see is the trickiest stuff, i.e., reflexive verbs, etc., used more in sentences with vocab that will be covered in the upcoming lessons, or is at least fairly new. It does not have to be a story, it could just be random sentences. I really feel the pace should be stepped up quite a bit. Also, the gentleman made mention of the encouragement. I too agree this is not necessary. I think if a user has been away from it for awhile, they would be able to go back through the material, especially the periodic review sessions on the DVDs and get caught up. I would like to see the pace of the audio component and podcasts quickened. These two things have to "hold" us through 30 lessons of our level, they should definitely be more challenging.
