Hi William,
The difference between "en" and "les" is that "en" is not a definite object or amount, such as "some fruit". So you would use "en" in this case. If you were speaking about something precise like "the apples I bought today" you would use "les". Here are two examples:
Est-ce que tu as des pommes? (some apples) Oui, j'en ai.
Est-ce que tu as les pommes dans le sac? Oui, je les ai. (The apples in the bag is precise)
