Spanish dictionaries and word derivations (origins)
I'm already bilingual (English & German), have studied French for many years and am now learning Spanish. I have a pretty good library of dictionaries. When I look in an English dictionary I see information about the derivation or origin of the word, for example, "stable" which comes from the Old French estable which in turn comes from the Latin stabilis. Better dictionaries will trace this back to the Indo-european. When I look in my German Duden or Spanish Larousse I don't find anything similar. Can anyone tell me why that is?
I'm interested in the words and where they come from. Those with Latin and Greek roots are pretty obvious but I'd like to understand the other influences on the words I'm studying.
Any insights and/or references would be appreciated. Thanks.
