What I do is buy my favorite movie and TV shows from
www.amazon.de. This is Germany's amazon.com. I use the google translate bar in Internet Explorer to navigate the website. They ship to the US. Most DVDs there come with selectable German and English voices as well as subtitles. I find it much easier to understand and follow when I already know what they're basically saying ahead of time, can read the subtitles, and enjoy the characters and story line. You will need a multi-region dvd player that handles PAL and NTSC formats to watch these though. I bought an LG BP-320 from
www.world-import.com and it works great. Nothing special to setup. Easy menu system. This distributor's model uses a hardware converter instead of software and they come with a lifetime warranty for region-free software changes. This model is region-free for DVD and Region A for BluRay (can get region-free for BluRay too for more $). It also does up-converting and handles wi-fi and other media inputs. Note that no manufacturers make region-free players. Distributors must modify them themselves. So buying the same model elsewhere may not work as well. I am not associated with this company in any way, but am an engineer and found this model to be the best bang for the buck as of fall 2012.
