Some recommendations
I'm about halfway through German 3. I lived in Germany for a time, acquired lots of words but never understood how to create actual grammatically correct sentences (instead of a wordsalad) until Fluenz. In the last few weeks, I've really tried to expand my horizons, and have a few suggestions. First, there's a wonderful book on German Grammer by Bruce Donaldson:"German: An Essential Grammer"--Amazon has an electronic version for around $20. I can't just read it, but it's a great resource. Second, Deutsche Welle has, like the BBC, interactive exercises (even a test to see where you stand), podcasts, short news reports, etc. I find their method frustrating at times--more like a traditional model where they throw lots of vocab at you with little explanation (Fluenz has spoiled me!), but it helps me build on my foundation. Third, watching German films online--I find myself cheating and reading subtitles unless I put a window of something else over the subtitles.
