You will find that there are words or phrases that do not translate exactly from language to language. I want some milk would be : quiero un poco de leche. I am in level five and try to concentrate on the correct use of the language rather than how it translates. Maybe that helps you?

I believe and I am not expert, but we should use un poco OR mucho
i.e. quiero un poco de leche or quiero mucho de leche
I have not reached yet high levels but I am assuming this is the logic in spanish. I hoe some one will answer your quesiton so we can learn from it.
Thanks for your question though.

Google translate can be helpful sometimes. It translates "I want some milk" as "Quiero un poco de leche" and "I want some apples" as "Quiero algunas manzanas."

So now I wonder if "some" must always be treated in such a diminutive way. Is this "a little bit" phrasing a humble culture thing?

I need to wash some dishes? Not too sure about this example!
Saying quiero un poco de leche is like saying I want a bit of milk, which is pretty synonymous with some in English, I think you're reading too much into things with the culture question!
To Zahranumar, if you want some milk it's quiero un poco de leche, if you want a lot of milk it's quiero mucha leche (no de), they do not mean the same thing as you seem to have suggested.

"quiero leche" seems appropriate for 'I want some milk" "tengo arena en el zapato" "debo lavar unos platos" "necesito aire fresco"
