I try to gargle it in the back of my throat and constrict the passage there. That has helped me at least with "da druben". I feel like it approximates the sound a little better than trying to produce it in the front of my mouth. The teacher sometimes gives hints on how to pronoun the sounds, though I find some things hard to pronounce too. Sometimes I practice the sounds in the car when I'm driving by myself. Good Luck!

Excuse my late post. Do you know who Eartha Kitt was and the way she rolled the back of her throat to make her famous growl/purr sound? That's about the sound you need to make for the R in die Rechnung, though not so harsh. It's very much like a gargle. Don't be frustrated!!! It's a muscular issue in that you're mouth (lips, tongue, jaw, throat) is not used to making the sounds needed to pronounce German correctly. Think of any other language trying to learn English and you'll get my drift. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADTgnY... (at 1:46 and 3:14). As a kid I always copied the Disney character Ludwig Von Drake; see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n1cXmMV8eI.
