I heard that too. I think it's just a slight error - either sentence makes sense.

I have encountered that several times in level 2, I would swear the person is saying vais but it turns out there were saying veux. I have always assumed it's because my ear is not quite in tune. In your example it's also hard to tell by the context because either veux or vais would work there.

Thanks Mitchell, I think you're right. Mike W., I see what you're saying, but in this case the text is provided so we don't have to guess at the context. :)

Yes, but... This is good when the text is provided in the training lessons, but some sort of documentation is needed for the CD's and the Podcasts to resolve what is being heard and what is intended to be heard. Can't Fluenz provide transcrips, at least in french?

Thanks so much for posting this. I listened to it over and over and thought I must be mistaken. The first post on this thread was a year ago. Would be nice if someone from Fluenz would respond.

Since this is a conversation, the speaker is going at natural speed here, and since the verb "veux" is followed immediately by the open vowel "a" of "acheter", he pronounces them in a row, so it can indeed be a bit difficult to perceive the sound clearly, but he does say "veux" here and not "vais".
The sounds of the two verbs can be a bit similar, and oral comprehension takes time, especially in French, so don't worry your confusion is perfectly natural at this point. Our advice is to listen to as much French as possible, practice with the CD and the podcasts over and over again, listen to music, watch movies or TV shows...and little by little your comprehension will become more and more accurate!
Thanks a lot for all your comments, we 'll definitely take this into account for our next updates/versions. Good luck with the rest of level1!

First of all, "Je veux acheter beaucoup de chose" is missing the final -s at the end of "chose". The word is a count noun used with "beaucoup de" (plural).
There is, for Natives, a clear difference between the pronunciation of "je vais" and "je veux". Usually my non native students catch ip quickly. Here is a link so you can listen to the audio recordings of these two sentences: http://www.forvo.com/languages-pronun...
Hope this is helpful. Bon courage !
