Hi Peter, There is no ''v'' sound in Spanish such as we have in English. The Spanish 'v' and 'b' sound exactly the same in Spanish. There may be slight differences depending on the letters surrounding 'b' and ''v''. Rather than trying to explain, in words, how to pronounce something, here is a link the a lesson on The Spanish Blog. http://www.thespanishblog.com/2010/11...
The pronunciation of ''c' is a little more complex but here are the rules and a practice lesson. http://www.thespanishblog.com/2010/11...
http://www.thespanishblog.com/spanish... has some additional pronunciation lessons you should find helpful.
It will come with lots of practice. You're asking your speaking parts to work in a different way. You'll be understood if you xxxx it up and use a 'v' sound for a 'v' or an 's' sound for a ''c''.
The Spanish Blog is a good resource when learning Castilian Spanish. Laura has excellent pronunciation and it's very helpful to watch some of her videos where you can watch a close-up of her speaking. She speaks slowly, but not too slowly because that's not the real world!

In Mexican Spanish and in Spanish of a number of countries the "b" and "v" are both the same bilabial plosives. There is in fact a "v" sound in Spanish according to my Chilean instructor.
