I find the podcasts quite helpful. They give explanations for some stuff, discuss accents, and are generally good practice. Plus, George and Sonia are rather entertaining. As for converstaions, another member on here suggested conversationexchange.com. I've had a good experience with my limited usage of the site thus far. I don't have any ideas for the workbooks - I'll be paying attention to those replies too.

I would recommend either French the Easy Way or French Three Years Workbook. The first one is a bit more for beginners. The second you will need to jump around a bit rather than beginning to end. I found both on Amazon. You may not want to get used, since they may have writing in them. You may also want a verb conjugation book. Barrons is a good choice.
