I do not think Fluenz purports to make anyone totally fluent in any language. To me, having done level 5 of both French and Spanish, then visited countries where these languages are spoken, I was extremely happy with my ability to communicate in just about every scenario. I soon became the spokesperson for the group. I think somewhere in a concluding session, or at the end of one of the podcast series, it is said that completing level 5 of Fluenz puts you at what would be considered an intermediate level of a language. For me, reaching this level, starting from scratch, in less than 6 months is nothing short of remarkable.

I think each person has their own experience, and the same software or books are not for everyone. However, for myself, I love Fluenz and appreciate that it adds vocabulary slowly, the situations that it explores are very pragmatic and useful, the explanations are clear, and each lesson builds on the last one. I often go through a lesson more than once. I also always use the flashcards. And as recommended, I have started listening to other podcasts in Spanish. I am now working on level 5 and it has been a year of study. I never stayed with any other software that long. This one keeps my interest and keeps me challenged, but is very doable. I hope you keep studying with whatever techniques work for you.
