Eso is actually a neuter personal pronoun. It is used for "that" in cases such as "Yo no se eso" for "I don't know that." Likewise, "esto" is the neuter form for "this". However, if the gender is known, you use the gender specific forms: "Me probé muchas camisas. Voy a comprar ésta. I tried on many shirts. I'm going to buy this one." Also, note that the masculine plurals for both this and that change to "o", "estos" and "esos" not "estes" and "eses." See http://spanish.about.com/od/pronouns/...
