Hi Maya - "Buenos dias" is a vernacular (regional) colloquialism (ordinary conversational language) that directly translates to "good day." It's a Spanish vernacular (regional) salutation (greeting) for "good morning" and "good day."
During the afternoon/evening we say "buenas tardes". "Tarde" directly translates to "late."
This is how we usually say it in Spanish.
"When in Rome do as the Romans do."
