It's been a while since I used an Italian textbook (the last one I used was AP Italian 6 years ago)...the grammar books I have are mostly by McGraw Hill. This is one for example: http://www.amazon.com/Italian-Grammar...
When I'm looking for supplements, I tend to browse amazon and look at reviews. Also, I'd go to an actual Barnes&Noble store and look at their selection, and then look up specific reviews from my smartphone.

One book I have always gone back to time and again is "soluzioni ! a practical guide to italian grammar" available on Amazon. It is a reference book with excellent organization, charts, examples in English, and also has exercises-- not sure how it compares to the one recommended by Vincenzo, but same authors. This book is so well laid out and so thorough that I have been looking for something similar for French but haven't found one. I highly recommend "soluzioni". The textbook I used through about 3 years of adult education was "Oggi in Italia".. explains things very well, but not as useful for quick reference and reinforcement as the soluzioni book. Buona fortuna!

i second soluzioni - admittedly not quite a text book but an excellent reference book. i've also used paola nanni tate's drills and have found them useful practice though not great as an explanation source. try the 'living language' series as well - i haven't used this yet but i keep intending to open it.

Hi V - think I mistakenly conflated two programs. I was using a book called 'Living Italian'. Have only done a few lessons but as far as a book goes I think it is very comprehensive (though not as engaging as Fluenz). I've seen your other posts on 'Living Language' and think I will give it a try once Fluenz is done. (I'm only just starting Level 4 so I think that is a while out!)

The book I use with Fluenz Italian is Italian A Self-Teaching Guide by Edoardo A. Lebano ISBN: 0-471-35961-0. It's the best I've seen and I've also bought the Berliz books as well as Italian for Dummies and Italian in 10 minutes a day.
