Hi. I'm native spanish speaker. So I will try to answer your question! Después del: de+el it is a contraction. In spanish we have few contractions and most native spanish won´t tell you we have contractions because we do it automatically, it is not like English, or French where I guess they teach you that at the school. So Once again, DEL is the contraction of de+el notice I didn't say él with an accent mark. El (it) and él (he). You never will contract de+él...
examples: me voy del pueblo. (de el pueblo) I´m leving from town.
me iré después de ti. I will go after you
después del mercado... After the supermarket (el supermercado) masculine. you have to use the masculine articule.
después de media noche. After midnight
depués no me busques. Later don´t look for me.
