If I remember correctly in Switzerland restaurant prices include the service but it has been years since I've been there. Tip not necessary but rounding up the bill is okay.

If you want to see someone's face light up, go to a non-tourist bar or restaurant and give an american-style tip. Tipping is not expected there.
I used to go to Switzerland fairly often for my work. If I remember right, in Switzerland all restaurants are required to include 15% service charge included in the bill.
At first, it felt extremely awkward to buy a beer or eat at a restaurant without leaving a tip, so I tipped anyway. After a while I got used to not tipping. If you tip, they often times will not understand what you are doing, or will try to give it back resulting in an awkward exchange (and my broken german didn't help).
Have fun in Switzerland, it is a great country to visit! Which part are you visiting?

I was just in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Rounding up to the next Euro should be fine.

10% is a good (expected?) tip in Germany. Not sure if this applies to Switzerland as well, but you may want to do some google searches to find out.

Its is customary in Germany to always leave your tip with your waiter instead of leaving it on the table.

Thanks, I'm starting a new job next month, just outside of Zurich in Lenzburg. I understand its started to get a bit cool there lately.

I was in Italy and France recently and was told rounding up to the next euro or leaving a euro or two euro coin on the table is very appreciated by servers.
