The only way I can think to answer this is to say that "buena" is an irregular adjective that is typically used before the noun ... as in "buena vista." When the masculine form ("bueno") is used, the "o" is usually dropped ... as in "buen amigo." (Hah! My auto-correct tried to change "buen amigo" to "burn amigo."
