I just recently passed the A1 Level proficiency test taken at the Goethe Institute in Hamburg, Germany. I had been studying German for only 1 month using Fluenz before taking the test. I had made it through all of the first disc (German level 1) and halfway through the second (German level 2) before the test date arrived. I honestly wasn't expecting to pass the first time around, as it seemed that I needed to have made my way through at least the first 3 discs, if not all five, before I would be sufficiently prepared. To my surprise I made a 76 on the test.....passing is 60. I did go onto the Goethe Institute website and print out a copy of the practice exam to get familiar with what I should expect on the day of the test. You need to be able to understand the instructions for each part of the test.
