I've been to Brazil several times, and have been struggling to learn Portuguese on my own for a couple of years. I got my red box yesterday and have gone through the first few lessons; I've already learned some grammar points that somehow escaped me in my previous studies. Thanks, Fluenz!

I'm really focused more on French at the moment - which I studied a little in school, but I purchased Portuguese 1 and 2 to see how well I could learn from Fluenz having never studied Portuguese. I loved the first two lessons. When I started session 3, I felt a little overwhelmed; however, I was tired so I will definitely try again after a good night's sleep. What I really liked about the first two sessions were Sonia's explanations of how certain letter combinations in words produce certain sounds. I would have liked a little more of that in session 3 as my ear for Portuguese is not nuanced enough to really distinguish what I'm hearing from what I'm reading and expecting to hear (e.g. the letter m in um café sounding more like an incomplete n). Plus, the new grammar in session 3 was a lot to take in. I'm definitely going to attack it again after some rest. If at first you don't succeed...I think about how far I've progressed in French and try to remind myself this is all new, and it will take some work. Overall, my first impression is that I'm glad I went with Portuguese.

Glad I went back to session 3 after some rest. A much better experience, and I'm sure I'm going to go over it again. My English to Portuguese translation skills are much better in writing than in speaking, but I feel more confident now.

Now working on session 13 and loving it. My pronunciation may not be that great (it's all right on some things), but my reading comprehension is coming along nicely. My only problem is now I'm sometimes forgetting some of my French words -- I have to really stop and think sometimes. I'm very glad I purchased Fluenz Portuguese even though it's competing with my French. This is sometimes just plain fun! My advice to anyone who thinks it's too hard is this: stick with it! Repeat a session and play with it if you have to and eventually move on, and at some point...it's just going to click.
To the Fluenz team that put level 1 together, I say, "Great job"! The way the material is presented, and then expanded upon, is coherent and easily absorbed with minimal effort on my part. In other words, I don't have to try to memorize too much all at once. I like the flow!
