In the initial levels of Fluenz, questions are all taught in the est-ce que format. The whole philosophy of Fluenz is to teach leveraging the English you already know, so they tend to take a different path than what might be considered traditional. Anyway, I believe they teach est-ce que first because it is easier for English speakers to pick up. In the real world it is something highly understood if you're speaking to a French person, but less used than the other question formats. Once they introduce the other question formats inversion and intonation, then the workouts will start to accept the different formats as correct. As the point where you are now, they are attempting to reinforce concepts so the workouts tend to me more strict in what they will accept as correct.

Thanks, I think that clears it up. I'd just got into the habit of doing it this way previously.
