In my experience, they are about 98 percent identical. The differences are in some vocabulary words and the accent. But if you learn one, you can do just fine in the native country of the other. It's like using British English in America.

There are many differences in vocabulary and accent, but you will be understood in Latin America if you study Spanish for Spain and vice versa. Differences in vocabulary can give rise to some embarrassing situations sometimes; apart from that there are some grammar differences (as you said, "vosotros" is not used in Latin America, and in general "usted" and "ustedes" are less used in Spain).
But there are many differences also depending on the country or even the region...here is a very funny song about how different Spanish can be depending on where you are (it's in Spanish but with English subtitles): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LjDe4...
