This is because enfance begins with a vowel so the masculine form of the possessive pronouns are used. It's the same with mon amie. Amie of course is a female friend but we use mon rather than ma.

Yes, when the possessive pronouns are used with feminine nouns that start with a vowel, like l'amie, "mon amie"

De rien. I am actually one lesson behind you and as I think about it, I don't know if that rule has come up in my Fluenz lessons. I have a couple of French penpals, they help me with my French, I help them with their sort of thing. One time I wrote ma amie to one of them, and she corrected me and told me it should be mon amie and explained the reason why.
