Only the masculine noun changes its ending in the Accusative case-from "der" to "den". Dom is a masculine noun which is why the "der" changed to "den" in the accusative case. Majority of prepositions take the accusative case. There are several including seit, aus bei, mit von and zu that take the Dative case. Always remember that in the Dative Case, all the artlcles change their endings compared to the accusative case. Its very simple to grasp. About. com/german has great illustrations and charts to reinforce what Fluenz teaches. You will find that website extremely valuable in making sense of German grammar.
