Once you complete all five levels, you will be able to communicate fairly well in French. I have heard it said that completing level five brings you up to around the A2 level of French which is defined as advanced beginner/low intermediate. That's realistic and it will take real effort and dedication to learning to reach that level. Going through all five levels in nine months, in my opinion is extremely fast. And going that fast my advice is your not going to learn the material as well as you would like to learn it. My recommendation would be to set a goal of getting through the first two levels and maybe into the third by December. Doing that would give you more of a solid understanding of the language and you should be able to get by during your trip. Of course everyone is different, some might start already knowing some of their chosen language, some people have a great aptitude for language, while others don't. In other words results may vary. However it's not about how many lessons or levels you get though, no one really gives points for that. It's about truly absorbing the material and the journey itself that matters. Which leads to the ultimate goal of really being able to communicate in a new language.
