Spanish after Level 1
Before Fluenz Spanish I was using Fluenz with two other languages. But Spanish is the first language I started to learn relying entirely on Fluenz. Right after finishing the first level I traveled to a couple of countries in South America and was overwhelmed by how much I could communicate in Spanish. Learning the numbers well is incredibly helpful, so many interactions can go entirely in Spanish if you can say and understand the numbers: from shopping to telling the time to a random person on the street.
Once, when I was in Uruguay, I wanted to pay for lunch with a credit card, I also wanted to add a 10% tip, as is appropriate there, to my bill. Unlike in the US they don’t just swipe your credit card and let you add any tip you want afterwards. I had to go to a cashier who asked me about the tips during the transaction; I got the question, replied with the exact amount I wanted to add, and made myself to be understood right away. Instead of uncomfortable misunderstanding, the whole interaction turned out as casual as it could be. And this is just after the first level; I’m not even talking about being able to order a dish at the restaurant and asking for a check, all the things that I didn’t have to switch to English for.
