While the Germans are starting to drop their historical aversion to credit cards, they're taking their time to do so, unfortunately.
When I was last in Europe (which, it must be said, was in 2011), I found it easy enough just going to the ATM and withdrawing Euros. Many of the stores I entered that accepted credit cards had absurd surcharges, where they welcomed credit cards at all. My bank allows me to withdraw 5,000 EUR a day, so this was just the easiest option by far. You might need to visit 2 or 3 ATMs before you will find one that works, but provided you've let your bank know you'll be traveling to Germany, I'm sure you'll have no problems withdrawing money.
