Just completed German 1 - My Opinion so far
Hey guys,
You guys have no idea how happy I am that I came across Fluenz. I live in Germany and it is very difficult to learn German here. I can carry covnersations, but my grammar is absolutely horrible. I've studied German with Pensleur and then when I finally came to Germany, I was placed in A2 German. The class was taught entirely in German and I picked up a lot, but I didn't understand all the rules completely. For some reason, the teacher felt that I needed to learn it in German. The problem I had is that I could say things without knowing the rules. I later passed A2 and moved on to B1. I completed most of the classes, missing one or two here and there, and was later told that I needed to retake the class however using a different book. I took a year off and just picked up words here and there. My first two classes were at the Local University and I really didn't have the time to go there anymore. I later found my way to the VHS and was placed in the B2 class. I found that the class was much easier there, but I had a hard time making the classes because of work.
After searching online, I came across Fluenz. The classes are easy for me, but I couldn't believe how much I'm actually learning. There were so many rules I didn't know and now I do. I still believe my level is the same, B1, but I feel that I'm much stronger and I'm more confident. You would be surprised how many times I would just mumble something because I wasn't sure exactly how it's said. I can't wait to finish all 5 levels. After the 5 Levels are done, I'm thinking about trying the B2 Goethe Institut exam.
Here are some things I would change if given the chance:
I would set an option to select informal. I speak English at work and when I do get a chance to speak German, it's usually informal. I would rather go through all these exercises with the Informal conjugations.
I'd also like to have an option to use the following letter combinations:
ae, oe, ue, etc..
Many Germans use these instead of having keyboards with the Umlaud. It's just so much easier than having to move my hands off home row to use the Umlauds.
I've also noticed that the classes come very close to the Common European Framework. It would be nice if they completely followed this format so someone studying German in order to pass one of these certificates can use Fluenz.
that' pretty much it. This has been a great product.
