Hi whyspir
Oh the joys of language learning! Unfortunately, German doesn't follow English as I'm sure you have noticed many times by now. So instead of "für" which would be the equivalent of the English "for" "to wait FOR" is always "warten AUF" in German. Unfortunately, you will just have to learn it and repeat it and practise it as much as possible to it sticks: "wait FOR" is "warten AUF" in German.
Du warten auf die Antwort. Wir warten auf deine Kollegin. etc.
