I don't have the Italian program, but I do have the program for French and Portuguese. In the "Words" list for both French and Portuguese the nouns have the definite articles, which indicates the gender. Also, the adjectives that are feminine are indicated by an "f" following the English translation of the word.

if the nouns/adjectives are feminine or plural, it is indicated after the word (f) or ( p)
Glad you found Challenge mode….if conversation is all you are interested in, then turning that mode off should be fine. I do think the emphasis on spelling words correctly has helped me learn and retain the information better, though.
As for your other point, I have not found it to be the case that I had to retype the entire phrase for the answer to be accepted. Not sure what is going on there.

If you come across any issues again with it not accepting what you typed, please take a screenshot keeping in what you wrote originally and send it to me at [email protected]. Make sure to include the session number and level. Keep an eye on those accents over the i's in Italian. They can be tough to see. Keeping off the Challenge Mode is the best idea if you aren't interested in learning the accents. At any point you can click the Answer Key and move on to the next question if you get frustrated. Best of luck with your Italian and your travels.

I've noticed sometimes that too many spaces will create an issue with a response. More often than not, I've had to search hard to find the error in what I have entered, even though it looks right.

At first I just tried to fix the mistake, but then I found that retyping the whole sentence or phrase from scratch helped me retain the information better. Of course my bad typing still gets in the way!
