Hey Dan,
Pendant means "during" or "for" (duration of time), so one means "I walked for five minutes" and the other "I walked five minutes"

But these seem to mean the same thing in English. Is there any difference in meaning in French?

No difference in the meaning really , just two ways of saying it.
