You would add the "e" at the end if groß is used in front of an object as an adjective.
"A big cup" - Eine große Tasse
"This cup is big" - Diese Tasse ist groß
Sorry for the random phrases, I don't know what lesson you are on so I guessed on which words you might know :)
Of course you would use the ending "er" for masculine and "es" for neuter nouns:
"A big beer"- Ein großes Bier
"A big suitcase"- Ein großer Koffer
And ending "en" when the noun is the direct object and masculine
"I have a big suitcase"- Ich habe einen großen Koffer"
