Hi Kiernon: Usually with location it is estar. But simplest thing is for you to scroll down to the discussion about ser and estar, original question posted by Fargo, just below.

Hi Kiernon, as James said, scroll down for another discussion on the same subject. To answer your question, if you use "es" you will be understood, but it will sound strange to natives.
When people ask me "what do you mean by understood, but strange?", i always take a very simple example. Imagine someone learning english, and you hear "Yesterday I cutted my finger". You will understand the person, but it will sound strange to you.
