There is no difference. They are pronounced the same way because the stress is on the first syllable whether there is an accent or not. The accent is there to differentiate the two when written. It's like "tu" and "tú", they are pronounced the same, but have different meanings.
Esta and Está are prounced differently, because the stress is on different syllables.
You will see (if not already) este and éste, you probably already know about cuándo, cuando, dónde, donde. They have the same meaning as a word but not the same meaning as a grammatical entity, however they are pronounced the same.

Thank you so much. I did not pick this up before your explanation. A friend tried to teach me a little Chinese once and I quit because I could not hear the differences in vowel sounds, and thought I was having a similar problem with accents here. A discussion of this would be helpful in the Fluenz program, audio exercises, or podcasts. Thanks again.
