First, I think you should not start another language until you have reached at least an A2 or B1 level in the first language. You can test yourself online but the best is to take the real exam in the field. Then study one language in a completely different setting from the other language. Another room, outside, use a different pen to take notes on a different notebook, study one in the morning, the other in the afternoon, you want to put yourself in situations that you make specific per language, for example you don't speak/read italian in the kitchen, you only speak/read French. That's my way of doing it, i'm sure other alternatives will be offered!
