Also, because in the first and second examples, the location of the passports can change. Since that is the case, (the passports can be moved from you to the person you are presenting them to, and the passports can be removed from your suitcase, then the estar form is used). In the third example, you are saying that "This is your passport"...the fact that the passport itself belongs to you cannot change, therefore the ser form is used.
