English Grammar in Translation: Future Tense or Really Going?
In Level 3 Lesson 19 the English sentence "Are you going to swim on Saturdays each weekend" is translated as "Gehst du jedes Wochenende samstags schwimmen". But I think the English sentence is confusing because in English, we often say "Are you going to......?" which really means "Will you.....?", which is a future tense...and the English sentence as written has to place to which the motion is directed. I realize that the present tense is often used in German for future events, but I think differentiating between "going to" meaning something that will happen in the future and "going to" meaning actually to move oneself is not easy. So, could the sentence also be translated by "Schwimmst du jedes Wochenende samstags?"? Or else make the English sentence something like "Are you going to the pool to swim on Saturdays each weekend?".
