Hi Daniel, Check on the side of your iPad - make sure the silent button there isn't showing red. That will solve the issue. Cheers, Andy

Thanks for the help. I have an iPad Air 2 without any mute button. The control is in settings which you can access by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Curiously the mute setting was on but I could get sound out of other applications like Skype, YouTube, etc. switching mute off worked, though.
PS An IT friend they were refer to this in his company as an "I DTen T" error or id10t error. You get the point.

Glad to hear you figured that out. I wouldn't refer to this as an ID 10 T error though since the sound was working elsewhere. :)
For anyone else that has this happen, on a regular iPad, turn the silent mode off (red not showing). For iPad Air, swipe up and make sure the silent mode isn't on. The bell icon. See here for further details: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204171
