Thanks to Andy G's response to the post entitled "List of lessons worth repeating", I found the answer to my post at 8.38 minutes remaining in lesson 6 of Unit 5. Thank you! Andy.

It is possible to translate "it" in both ways.You might have to change the word order though. "Diese Krawatte ist toll. Du solltest sie morgen tragen" would suggest to wear the tie. "Diese Krawatte ist toll. Die solltest du morgen tragen" would stress that you should wear that particular tie and not another one.

You would not have to change the word order regardless of which form you use, and the truth is, the er/sie/es form is what is used most often (actually almost always). I've been living here in Germany for a few months now and it is definitely best to use the er/sie/es form as the der/die/das form sounds unnatural.
