Hi Sandra. As you figured out, the past tense of ser is the same as the past tense of ir. Actually, it is not used too much so they didn't spend a lot of time on it, later you learn that the imperfect of ser is more commonly used. You could have easily missed the discussion of the past tense of ser, it comes in the last 30 seconds or so of Sonya's discussion of the conversation in Level 2, lesson 15.
