Use poser to ask a question, poser une question, demander to ask someone for something.

Demander is always used on its own and means To ask or To ask for: Je vais demander/I'm going to ask, J'ai demandé ce plat/I've asked for this dish
Poser on its own means To put, as in: J'ai posé le livre sur la table/I've put the book on the table.
But the expression: Poser une question means: To ask a question: Il m'a posé une question/He's asked me a question.
We never use "demander" in this case, the expression is always: Poser une question.
Hope it clarifies the difference a bit!
