Hi, are you saying that somewhere they use tomarse instead of tomar? The fact that a verb is in the past has nothing to do with it being used as a reflexive verb or not. If you use a reflexive verb in the present, you should use it reflexively in the past too.
There are many verbs that can be used non-reflexive and reflexive, so that could be your confusion but i don't think fluenz approches those?
"Yo me tomé un viaje a Mexico" is correct but has a different meaning than "Yo tomé un viaje a Mexico". The first one could be translated as "I booked myself a trip to Mexico" whereas the other one would be "I took a trip to Mexico".

Hi Mickeya13, with reflexive verbs you always have to use reflexive pronouns, in any tense. Many verbs have a reflexive and non-reflexive form, sometimes with a change in meaning. "Tomar" is normally used in a non-reflexive way although it is true that we sometimes add the reflexive pronoun for more emphasis. For example, you'd be fine saying "Yo tomé un café" but you could also hear "Yo me tomé un café" (no change in meaning). In the program, we don't use the reflexive form of "tomar". Reflexive verbs can be quite complex, so it's better to start working on those verbs which are almost always used reflexively, like "Quedarse". I hope this is a bit clearer now!
