When 'para' precedes a verb it implies "in order to".
Therefore, "Estoy llamado para alquilar una habitación" means "I am calling in order to rent a room".
Similarly, "Alguien va a subir para ver" means "Someone is going up (or climbing) in order to see".
I am not sure which lesson Sonia presents this explanation. I think it is a few lessons after 3:16. You are definitely more observant than I was the first time I covered the material.

I finally found this in my notes: Sonia's explanation is offered in session 3:2. I this video, Sonia covers several uses of 'para'.

Hi Sproquita, Garren is right and in session 2, level 3, Sonia reviews the different uses of "para" and explains that it can be used to express "in order to" or "for the purpose of".
