The uses of each expression are quite subtle, so I'm just bringing in my understanding of it as a learner here: from my understanding, yìdiǎnr is more like "a little bit" or "a little more", while "gèng" expresses something like "even more", so you'll prefer one or the other depending on the situation and on what you want to express.
