Hi, these verbs are not interchangeable:
You use Vermieten to mean To rent out (a landlord for example, or here the bike storekeeper), while Mieten means To rent (for the lodger, or in this conversation, Isabella) which is why they both appear in the workouts, depending on the context. Hope this helps!
