Congratulations! I've used Fluenz for Spanish and Mandarin, and I just started level 3 Italian. I agree that you should use a tutor, I've made tremendous progress using one, and it's easy to find tutors online for a reasonable price. The only thing I noticed when using a tutor is that they are somewhat confused by your level, because contrary to other methods, with Fluenz you get a strong grammatical foundation but the vocabulary is somewhat poorer, so this is different from what they're used to because you're using great structures but cannot find many words to use with them. I don't know about the new updated versions though.
You may want to check children movies or songs with italian subtitles (not english), they are easier to understand due to a more restricted vocabulary than movies, and this will form your ear in understanding italian more clearly.

Would you believe I love to watch the Italian Peppa Pig cartoons on YouTube? They are simple enough that I can understand a lot of what they say. I also enjoy watching Ale e Franz, an Italian comedy team. I don't understand much of what they say but sometimes I can get the gist from watching their actions. I just have to keep at it!

Thanks Tina. I'm 53 and I think Peppa Pig is a great idea! I found some episodes with subtitles (just learned how to say subtitle in italian, so it's a win already), it will be fun to watch thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks Tina for your assessment of the Fluenz program. I have completed Level 3 of the Italian program and am in the process of reviewing the first three levels before starting Level 4. I have the found the program to be challenging and rewarding. You can make significant progress. It requires lots of practice, review and patience. But well worth it! Thanks again for your comments.
